Baaz impact: five washed away

Two washed away, most reservoirs filled to capacity

    TIRUPATI: Two persons were washed away and several villages inundated as cyclone Baaz battered the eastern mandals of Chittoor district. Three persons are feared washed away in Kodur town in Cuddapah which received 17 cm rain on a single day.

    The Tirupati division covering the eastern mandals of the district received an average rain fall of 7 to 8 cm which put at least two main reservoirs -- Kalyani dam (Tirupati) and Aarniar (Pichchatur) in a precarious position.

    A red alert has been sounded in all the villages .

    The latest spell claimed two lives in Chittoor-- one in Tirupati and another in Vijayapuram.

    In Tirupati, a father and son trying to cross a narrow cause way in Yerramitta area were washed away. The son however survived by clutching on to a tree branch. Road closed

    In Tirumala TTD Executive Officer APVN Sarma ordered the security and engineering officials to close down the second ghat road leading to Tirumala at 10.00 p.m., as the road is prone to heavy landslips.
