TDP members not to be `provoked' in House

Naidu wants MLAs to observe restraint if personal issues are raked up

  • Asks legislators to raise only public issues
  • Party's deputy leaders to have more say in proceedings
  • All TDP members asked to attend House

HYDERABAD: In a strategic move, the Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP) members have decided to observe restraint and refrain from getting provoked by the Congress members in the Assembly during the winter session, which commenced on Saturday.

This decision was taken at the TDLP meet chaired by the party president N. Chandrababu Naidu here. Members felt that it would be better not to "fall in the trap of the Treasury benches," if they try to provoke the Opposition members by raking up personal issues and sidestepping those of public importance.

"In the last two sessions, the Government bulldozed its way while running the House and avoided giving convincing replies to issues raised by us," Mr. Naidu told his party MLAs. He advised them to raise only public issues without getting into arguments with the Treasury benches.

    Self defence

The meeting, which was attended by 31 members, was aimed at gearing up the party to face the Government's counter-attack on issues such as allotment of land at a throwaway price to the sports management company, M/s IMG Bharata, and the alleged death of two persons due to release of effluents from a milk factory owned by the family of the former Chief Minister.
