MANGALORE: Society, which reveres woman by worshiping several goddesses does not think before committing atrocities against a woman in her mortal form, R. Gururajan, Judge of State High Court and administrative judge of Dakshina Kannada district said on Saturday. It is important for all concerned to promote legal awareness among women, he said. Presiding over the valedictory function of the National Legal Literacy month celebrations organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority, Department of Women and Child Welfare and the Mangalore Bar Association, Mr. Gururajan said despite laws to protect women, they continue to be exploited, he said. The steady rise in number of family courts is an indicator of the growing atrocities committed against women, he said. P. Vishwanath Shetty, Judge of Karnataka High Court and Chairman, Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, who inaugurated the function, said it is the duty of authorities concerned to put in place proper and adequate infrastructure, which in turn is able to dispense justice. Chief guest S. Abdul Nazir, Judge, Karnataka High Court, said that Lok Adalats in Karnataka have disposed of 6.64 lakh cases through conciliation. G.V. Hegde, Principal District and Sessions Judge, and K.S. Sharma, President, Mangalore Bar Association, were present.
