MANGALORE: A woman and her daughter were injured in a powerful blast, which ripped apart their bedroom and brought down the wall at Jeppu Kudupady here in the early hours of Saturday. The blast, reportedly triggered by the woman in an apparent attempt at suicide, damaged the bedroom and resulted minor damage to an adjacent house. B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, who visited the spot said that Ayesha (45), had a strained relationship with her husband who is working in the Gulf. Ms. Ayesha, originally a Sri Lankan national has settled here. She probably decided to take this extreme step owing to personal problems, Mr. Dayananda said. According to preliminary investigations by forensic experts, the blast was triggered by Ms. Ayesha who is suspected to have cut an LPG cylinder's tube before striking a match. She has suffered 80 per cent burn injuries and is battling for her life at a private hospital. Shegutha, her daughter, is in a critical condition. The Mangalore South police are investigating.
Arrested
The District Crime Intelligence Bureau, who are assisting Puttur Town Police in investigating the murder of septuagenarian Trivikram Kamath in their limits in July, on Saturday arrested two persons in this connection. Suresh Rao and Ramesh Achary, residents of Puttur have admitted to their involvement in the incident. Mr. Dayananda in a press release said that police had no clues about the incident initially. Even though the incident looked as one carried out for monetary gain, nothing valuable was missing from Kamath's house. The accused who entered the victim's house through the backdoor initially bludgeoned and then strangled him to death. The duo have since been remanded in judicial custody.
