3 arrested on car thefts charge

NEW DELHI: Three persons alleged to be involved in vehicle thefts have been arrested by the East Delhi police.

According to the police, the accused -- identified as Raj alias Suresh, Balvinder Singh and Rohit -- were arrested at a parking lot in Gandhi Nagar, East Delhi, on Friday. Two of their associates managed to escape. A stolen Maruti Zen car and a motorcycle, apart from firearms, were seized from them.

The police said Raj, who was allegedly involved in more than 17 cases of motor vehicle thefts, had earlier worked as a mechanic in a garage.

Two nabbed

NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly involved in a double murder at Darbhanga in Bihar have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

According to the police, the accused, Mohammad Zaid and Mohammad Imran, were arrested near Bhairon Mandir in New Delhi on Friday.

The police said the accused had killed Mohammad Sadarul Hassan (29) and Ram Raj Majhi (35) on July 24, 2004, in Darbhanga following dispute over property.

Alleged suicide by two

NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in separate incidents reported from North-West Delhi and West Delhi on Saturday.

According to the police, a 22-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling in his house at Jahangirpuri in North-West Delhi this morning. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, Ayub Ali, who worked in an auto spare parts shop in Kashmere Gate, was married a year ago. At Punjabi Bagh in West Delhi, an unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in a vacant plot on Rohtak Road this morning. The police are trying to ascertain his identity.

Child ran over

NEW DELHI: A five-year-old girl was run over and killed by a Tata-407 truck at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi on Saturday.

According to the police, Ruby, daughter of Shambhu Nath, was crossing the road along with him around 1 p.m. when the truck carrying milk packets knocked her down. Ruby died on the spot.

Health mela

NEW DELHI: More than 500 senior citizens and over a hundred police personnel participated in the "health mela" organised at DCP office complex in East Delhi on Saturday. A team of 14 doctors attended to the senior citizens who had a complete health check up.
