297 clear preliminary screening at Job Fair

Plan to hold another job fair for IT and ITES sectors soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 297 candidates were shortlised for the next round of interview by various companies on the first day of the three-day Job Fair 2005 organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board here on Saturday.

These candidates were shortlisted from among 1,156 who registered their names at the Fair on Saturday. The largest number of candidates was shortlisted by HDFC --110. ING Vysya Bank selected 40 candidates while Wi-fi Solutions, a private IT firm, shortlisted 35 candidates. BPL Mobile has identified 26 candidates for further screening. The shortlisted candidates will appear for a second round of screening to be held by the company concerned. Each candidate was given a code number after the free registration. Later the candidates were called in batches to tour the 33 pavilions at the Fair.

B. Sreekumar, member secretary of the Board, told The Hindu that 32 candidates who were offered jobs by BPL Mobile at the Job Fair in Kozhikode on November 25, 26 and 27, joined duty on Saturday. "This is a very happy turn of events while the fair here is going on," he said. Earlier in the day, while inaugurating the Fair, Minister for Youth Affairs A.P. Anilkumar said the department would organise another major job fair in the State for the IT and ITES sector s soon. A database containing the resume of job-seekers would be set up and companies who register with the Board will be given this data. No fee will be charged from candidates for hosting their resume.
