Losses in business forced him to take the extreme step, say police

BANGALORE: A man, who had suffered losses in business, allegedly murdered his wife and three children and committed suicide at his house in Bangalore's Ramamurthynagar police station limits. The incident came to light on Saturday morning.

The police said P. Krishnan (42) of Jayanthi village, off Horamavu, allegedly murdered his wife Pannamani (35) and daughter Aishwarya (8) by slitting their throats. He strangled his other daughter Soundarya (10) and hanged his son Vignesh (5) from the ceiling of the house, and committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling, the police said.

At around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday, a woman, said to be a relative of Krishnan, came to his house. On seeing a milk sachet in front of the house, she knocked at the door. When there was no response, she peeped into the house through a window and found Krishnan's body hanging from the ceiling.

She raised an alarm, and Krishnan's neighbours broke open the door. On being alerted, the police shifted the bodies to a private hospital for autopsy. They suspect that the incident occurred late on Friday night. According to the police, Krishnan, a native of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, had settled in Bangalore. He owned a shop, Soundarya Home Articles, at Bhuvaneshwarinagar in Sultanpalya. He was selling household articles against payments in monthly instalments, and suffered losses, the police said. The police suspect financial problems forced Krishnan to take the extreme step.

Two years ago, he built a house at Jayanthi village. His elder daughter was studying in third standard and the younger in first standard, the police said. The Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case.
