WELCOME TO `VIJJU': District Collector Praveen Prakash looking at the mascot of Visakha Utsav 2005 after unveiling it on Saturday. VUDA Vice-Chairman G. Venkatram Reddy is also seen.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Utsav-2005 will be conducted for four days from December 25, according to District Collector and Utsav Committee Chairman Praveen Prakash. Chairing a meeting of district officials and chiefs of various Utsav sub-committees at the Collectorate on Saturday, he said that the original dates ---December 22 to 25 --- had been changed for operational reasons.
Prime objective
He said the prime objective of the Utsav was to provide wholesome entertainment to the poor and lower middle class people free of cost, besides promoting Visakhapatnam as a tourist destination. The Utsav would have three exhibitions --- one at the main venue on R.K. Beach with food stalls, the second at Jaatara for handicrafts and the third of rare photographs of Vizag at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium. There would be a flower show atop Kailasagiri, besides a number of cultural and sports events. APSRTC Regional Manager D. Satyanarayana said that his organisation would arrange a number of bus trips to take people to different venues. Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman G. Venkatram Reddy, who is also the Utsav Committee Vice-Chairman, appealed to officials and non-officials to pool up their resources to make the Utsav a grand success. Later, Mr. Praveen Prakash also unveiled the Utsav-2005 mascot featuring dolphin fish, and christened it as `Vijju.' He called for popularising the mascot all over the district and nearby districts. Joint Collector Sandip Kumar Sultania, DRDA Project Director Kannababu and Andhra University Transport Management Institute Director D. Pandunga Rao were among those who took part in the meeting.
