dated December 5, 1955: Cyclone havoc

The Madras Government have issued instructions to the Collectors of Tanjore, Tiruchirapalli and Madurai, to take immediate relief measures in the areas of the districts, which have been hit by cyclone. Thirty-one cases of loss of human life in Pattukottai, one in Madurai town and one in Melur, and damage to houses, coconut and plantain gardens and loss of cattle have been reported. Avenue trees have been uprooted in several places and road and rail communication dislocated.
