This Day That Age
The demand for cars in the country, which had been at a low level, is going up, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari, told the Lok Sabha on December 3. Asked about the steps taken to develop demand for automobiles, he said the import duties on components and parts of motor vehicles had been reduced, the margin of profit to dealers brought down, and the types and makes of vehicles to be manufactured in the country restricted. The cumulative effect of all these steps appeared to be pushing up the demand for cars.
