Letters to the Editor
This refers to the article "Vidharbha: cry, the beloved countryside" (Dec. 2). The fact that almost no steps are being taken to prevent farmers' suicides in Vidharbha demonstrates the extent to which the ruling classes are in the thrall of neo-liberalism. The Maharashtra Government should take urgent corrective action. The Centre should take steps to check the dumping of subsidised cotton by the U.S. and the EU. Otherwise, it will be solely responsible for the deaths being caused by apathy masquerading as support for free trade.
