Misplaced focus

Not a day passes without some activity relating to AIDS/HIV. There is either an awareness campaign or a prevention campaign. Invariably some celebrity is roped in — a politician, film star or sportsperson — as though the message will reach the people only if he or she is associated with the campaign. Amid all hype, the much-needed message gets lost. It is time some other method of delivering the message was thought of.
