Komarapalayam: Students, particularly those from technical education, should aim at being job providers and not job seekers. This was the only way to realise President A P J Abdul Kalam's dream of making India a superpower by 2020, said Jatindranath Swain, Commissioner of Technical Education. Participating in the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of S.S.M. Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College here on Saturday, Mr. Swain said that nearly 15 million jobs would be required in the years to come. And, the way to go about would be by turning students into entrepreneurs, he added.
Identify entrepreneurs
He asked technical education institutions to identify entrepreneurial talents among students right in the first year and groom the students. "If at least 50 per cent of the students passing out of technical institutions turn entrepreneurs, there would be employment for all in the country," the Commissioner observed. Mr. Swain also spoke about the changing job scenario and urged the students to be multi-faceted in their approach. The Chancellor of Sathya Bama Deemed University, Jeppiaar, said besides education, the students should also learn human values. When the students stepped into an educational institution, they should conduct themselves in the way they would do so in a temple. After all, school and colleges were temples of learning.
Endowment lecture
He suggested the setting up of an endowment lecture in memory of the former Chief Minister, M. G. Ramachandran, to S. S. M. P. Elango, Chairman and Correspondent of S. S. M. Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College. He reminded Mr. Elango that it was the late Chief Minister who granted the Government permission to start the college and presided over its inaugural function.
