LONDON: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has called for "new forms of Hindu consolidation," saying that Hinduism is "under siege." Speaking at a meeting organised by the Kanchi Kamakoti Devotees' Forum here, Dr. Swamy warned against the "anti-Hindu forces" which were leading a campaign against Hinduism. "The siege is multi-dimensional: religious through subtle denigration of Hindu icons and concepts, mental in creating a debilitating mindset, cultural through pernicious globalisation, and finally physical through terrorism and conversion from the faith itself," he said. Dr. Swamy attacked Indian secularism calling it "one-sided" and tilted in favour of the minorities. "The deafening silence of minority organisations in their failure to condemn the bogus case against the Kanchi Acharyas especially after the Supreme Court observations shows how one-sided India's commitment to secularism is," he said. Dr. Swamy called for a Central law against "induced and collective conversion" of Hindus to other faiths, and said that this should be made an issue for "mobilising Hindu votes" in the next general elections.
