KARIMNAGAR: A Maoist was killed in an encounter with the police on the outskirts of Veernapalli of Yellareddypet mandal in the wee hours of Sunday. The slain naxal was identified as Rajanna, 28, of the Maddimalla guerrilla squad. The police conducted combing on credible information about the movement of naxalites in the Manala forest. On sighting the police, the naxalites opened fire. The police returned the fire, killing Rajanna. His comrades, however, managed to escape. The police recovered a tapancha, some rounds of ammunition, party literature, a kitbag and other material from the scene. Rajanna was involved in several cases, including murder.
