BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi submits memorandum
NEW DELHI: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party's Delhi Assembly office-bearers led by the Leader of Opposition, Jagdish Mukhi, met the Union Urban Development Minister, Jaipal Reddy, at his residence on Sunday and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate notification of Delhi Master Plan 2021 so that six lakh shops being run in residential areas are not demolished or sealed as per the recent decision of the Supreme Court. The delegation also asked the Minister to make the Central Government a party in the Supreme Court and to tell the court about the provisions in the new Master Plan to allow commercial activity in the residential areas provided they are located on a road with a minimum width of 18 metres and of 13 metres width in case of special zones. This, the delegation noted, was necessary because land in Delhi is a reserved subject and comes directly under the purview of the Union Urban Development Ministry. The BJP leaders -- who included Deputy Leader in Vidhan Sabha, S.P. Ratawal, general secretary Karan Singh Tanwar, deputy chief whip Sushil Chaudhary and secretary of BJP Legislature Party, Dharam Dev Solanki -- also requested the Minister to direct the Delhi Government, Delhi Development Authority and the municipal Corporation of Delhi to put up before the Supreme Court the provision of the new Master Plan regarding allowing commercial use of residential properties properly in a proper manner. Professor Mukhi said after listening to the demands Mr Reddy commented that though he was quite new to the Ministry, still he agrees to the demand for early notification of the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 and also ordered the Urban Development Secretary to discuss the matter with him to expedite the notification.
