Haj pilgrims

NEW DELHI: Haryana Governor A.R.Kidwai and Delhi Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Saturday saw off the first batch of Haj pilgrims from the special Haj terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport here. Chairman, Central Haj Committee, Tanveer Ahmad, and Chairman, Delhi State Haj Committee, A.S. Salmani, were also present on the occasion. The first contingent consists of 600 people. Fifty flights till December 22 will carry 15,000 pilgrims to Jeddah from the Capital.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Chauhan informed that the Central Government had also increased the quota from 82,000 to 1,00,000 pilgrims.

`Walk for Freedom'

NEW DELHI: Physically disabled people do not need people's sympathy, but needed opportunities. The Government and non-government organisations should take up programmes towards creating confidence among physically challenged peoples and they should be provided with opportunities to lead a normal life.

This was stated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit while inaugurating the "Walk to Freedom'' programme at India Gate on the occasion of World Disability Day on Saturday.

Ms. Dikshit further said that it was not only an individual responsibility but also society's responsibility to create awareness among physically disable people with regard to the facilities available for them and on how best they could make use of these facilities.

Hepatitis Day

NEW DELHI: Considering the ignorance and casual response of the people towards preventable diseases, the campaign on Hepatitis B should not remain a routine awareness campaign but also a motivational drive. The Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi stated this at a Hepatitis Day function organised at the G.B. Pant Hospital here on Sunday. Also present on the occasion were Delhi Heath Minister Yoganand Shastri and Principal Secretary Health Rakesh Mehta.In his address, the Lieutenant- Governor said the Delhi Government should have a comprehensive programme to check the spread of preventable diseases.

Doctor Cell team

NEW DELHI: The BJP Doctor Cell, Punjabi Bagh district announced its team members today. The chief guest of the function was Raj Narain Pandey, RSS in charge of the West zone. Other guests were S.C.L. Gupta, president Doctor Cell Delhi State, Rohit Rajpal, district president and Vikesh Kapila, general secretary. The new team includes Seema Kapila, president, Upendra Singh Panwar, general secretary, Sanjeev Sood, J.S. Chilana, Radha Rao, Kapil Sadana as vice presidents, R.K. Yadav, Sanjay Bansal, A. Bajaj, Dr. Khurana, all secretaries, and Surinder Sayali as treasurer. Apart from this, the 21-member team includes 11 executive members and 10 office bearers.
