Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP on Sunday demanded Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) B.S. Thind's resignation following revelation of his involvement in a number of land grabbing incidents by a private news channel. "The law and order situation of the State could well be judged with a number of criminal cases registered against a senior State police official," party's State president Suresh Bhardwaj said at a press conference here. A private news channel had aired a special programme on Mr Thind's involvement in land grabbing cases on Saturday. It also said the CBI had written to the State Government about his alleged role in faking documents and taking multiple loans on a single property. Mr Bhardwaj accused the State Government of shielding a controversial police officer by attempting to withdraw a case against him in a local court here. Mr Thind is currently holding the dual charge of CID and Law and Order in the State police department and is the second-most senior police official of the State. Mr Bhardwaj took exception to State Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's statement to the channel that the officer was on a five year leave and that mere accusation was not enough to take action against a senior police official. He threatened to launch a mass campaign for his removal from the post if the State Government does not take action against him. -- UNI
