Chennai: Thieves broke into a house on Tirunarayana Avenue, Kilpauk, and made off with over 100 sovereigns of jewellery along with Rs. 35,000 in cash.
Police said the resident, Narayanan, was away with his family in Bangalore, leaving behind his aged mother in his sister's house. The intruder had removed a grille on the rear side of the house to gain entry.The intruder ransacked the cupboards and almirahs in the house. A case has been registered with the Kilpauk police.
Fakes seized
The Central Crime Branch police raided a godown in Kodambakkam and seized 9,250 shirts, T-shirts and inner garments bearing the name of an international brand. One person has been arrested. Police said a representative of `Polo' had complained to Police Commissioner R. Nataraj that a person had a large quantity of fake products bearing his company's name.
Following this, the Central Crime Branch authorities raided the premises on the Station Road.
The police, apart from the dress material, seized tags and labels. The arrested person was identified as B. Rohit (45) of T.Nagar.
The seizure was valued at Rs. 16 lakhs. The accused was reported to be exporting the fakes to various countries, including Canada, London, Singapore and the U.S. and that he was in the business for the past one year.
Rohit was remanded to custody.The police are investigating where the fakes were manufactured.
