Kadri Kambala draws crowd

The Kadri Kambala Committee organised slush track races for men and women



KICKING UP A STORM: Kadri Kambala (slush track buffalo race) of Kadri Majunatha Swamy temple was held at Kadri in Mangalore on Sunday. The kambala season has started in Dakshina Kannada.

MANGALORE: Gurupura Kerubari Guruvappa Poojary won the first prize in the "kana halage" category at the famous Kadri Manjunatha Swamy Kambala (slush track buffalo race) at Kadri on Sunday.

In the "hagga hiriya" category Kodana Narayana Rai, Machhur Kalkude Lokesh Shetty and Bailu Meginamane Nagaraja Shetty bagged the first three prizes respectively.

Panjikallu Kajebail William Myanubel Rodrigus, Narya Guttu Kubettabail Soumyath Rai and Morla Sudhakar Alva won the first three prizes in "hagga kiriya" category.

With Sunday's kambala, the kambala season started in Dakshina Kannada. Large numbers of people gathered to witness this race at Kadri.

Deputy Commissioner H.V. Parshwanath and the former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor, spoke. A. Moha n Rao and B.R. Bhat, general managers, Corporation Bank and G.K. Bhat, general manager, Karnataka Bank, gave away the prizes which included gold medals and trophies.

The Kadri Kambala Committee had also organised slush track races for men and women and tug-of-war competitions.

In the men's tug-o-war competition, Padukere Friends, Udupi, secured first place and Rama Bhakanjaneya Vyayama Shale, B.C. Road, and New Janata Babugudda bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.

In the women's tug-of-war, New Janata Babugudda, Akshata Yuvati Mandala, Sullia, and Panambur Friends won the first three prizes respectively.
