Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order in the capital in view of the hartal call given by Babri Masjid Coordination Committee on December 6, the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. As many as 120 mobile patrols will be deployed and 75 police pickets will be set up in the city as part of the security arrangements, according to City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham. Over 1,600 police personnel will be on duty in the capital. Separate police pickets will be set up in the railway and bus stations. The police have been asked to take suspected persons into preventive custody from Monday onwards and to carry out raids in lodges and hotels in the city. According to the City Police Commissioner, the officers and police personnel in the capital have been given instructions to maintain vigil from 5 p.m. on Monday. Legal action would be initiated against those trying to forcibly close down shops and business establishments. The Commissioner said the police have not granted permission to take out procession and marches in the city on Tuesday. Criminal case will be filed against all, including leaders, who take out marches and destroy public properties. Civil case will also be filed against the leaders and others to recover the loss suffered by the Government. The Commissioner said necessary instructions to this effect had been given to the police officers.
