Scribe assaulted by policeman

NEW DELHI: A journalist with a Hindi national daily was allegedly assaulted by a Delhi police constable at Preet Vihar in East Delhi on Sunday.

While the constable has been placed under suspension, the police have registered a cross case in the matter.

According to the complaint, Vibhuti Rastogi, a reporter with Dainik Jagaran, was crossing Karkari Mor around 1 p.m. when he saw some policemen -- deployed at the post -- having a heated exchange with a motorcycle rider.

As Vibhuti, who was wearing his identity card, stopped there to see what exactly the matter was, Constable Devender Kaushik allegedly took out the keys of his motorcycle and punched him on the face, threatening him with dire consequences.

On the basis of his complaint, the police have registered a case.

Inspector beaten up

NEW DELHI: A constable allegedly beat up a traffic inspector over some minor issue at Pandav Nagar in East Delhi on Sunday. An inquiry into the incident has been initiated.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. when an argument broke out between Constable Veer Pratap, posted at the Kalyanpuri circle, and Inspector Nanak Chand Katariya over the issue of deployment.

Soon the situation went out of control and Constable Pratap allegedly beat up Inspector Katariya.

The matter was brought to the notice of the range head, who ordered an inquiry under the area traffic assistant commissioner of police.

Stray cattle

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has issued a series of directions for management and upkeep of stray cattle in the Capital.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender and Justice Rekha Sharma, among other things, directed setting up of a monitoring committee headed by the Additional Sessions Judge J.P. Sharma (retired) and three advocates to monitor the menace of stray cattle and their management in the city.

Man shot at

NEW DELHI: A property dealer allegedly tried to kill his former driver at Vikaspuri in West Delhi on Sunday. While the victim is stated to be out of danger, the accused is still absconding.

The incident occurred around 12-30 p.m. when Shripal allegedly shot at Kapil Tyagi near the Rajpur Nullah at Vikaspuri. Kapil, who sustained a bullet injury on the cheek, was taken to DDU Hospital from where he was referred to Safdarganj Hospital.

Initial investigations revealed that Kapil earlier worked as a driver for Shripal. But he recently quit the job and started dealing in property. This led to a rift between him and Shripal, following which the former on Sunday allegedly tried to eliminate the latter.

Goodwill mission

NEW DELHI: Thirty-five students and teachers from schools in Jammu and Kashmir are on a goodwill mission across the country. The mission is being conducted by the Army and has been organised by the Infantry Brigade of the 19th Division.

On Sunday, the group was received by Arvind Sharma, MP from Karnal, who also hosted a tea party for them at his residence here. Earlier, the group had visited Mumbai, Pune, Ahmednagar and Aurangabad.
