NEW DELHI: If the rich have their casinos for entertainment, the poor have their own little gambling dens run by small-time operators in the Capital. One such den has allegedly been operating at Ismail Khan Park in the Model Town area of North-West Delhi for the past few months. According to locals, the gambling den is allegedly being run by some miscreants and is attracting clients from nearby settlements. The operators offer two kinds of "entertainment": one is a form of lottery, while the other is called "Chhoot Ka Juwa" that involves playing cards. In "Chhoot Ka Juwa", the operator spreads 13 cards -- from Ace to King. The clients are required to put money on one of the cards of their choice, and several people can opt for the same card at a time. After making sure that he has made a "huge" collection of stake money, the operator shuffles another pack of playing cards and then deal them in a 1:3 ratio. If the card on which the clients have put money lands on their side, the operator returns double the amount of the stake money. However, in case it happens otherwise, the entire collection goes into the kitty of the operator. It is learnt that this particular game has become so popular that some clients even put as much as Rs. 50,000 as stake money in a single day. "Apart from the "Chhoot Ka Juwa", the operators also run a lottery for which draw of lots is carried out outside Delhi," said an area resident, adding that the lottery results are declared every 15 minutes.
