NEW DELHI: Nearly a week after All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) introduced its revised hospital charges, questions are being raised about the need for the increase with various groups stating that the Government must act decisively in its duty to provide health and education for all. At meeting held under the aegis of the AIIMS Front for Social Consciousness to debate imposition of what they claimed "crippling user charges'', groups including Resident Doctors' Association, Society of Young Scientists, students' union, nurses' union and karamchari union said that AIIMS was created for research, teaching and patient care. The group noted that increased rates would bar access to healthcare, including high quality specialist and tertiary care that AIIMS is known for.
