Bangalore: The five-day Construction Equipment and Technology Trade Fair (EXCON 2005), organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is said to have generated business enquiries to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crores. "There is an infrastructure revolution that is going on in this country which is going to be unstoppable and such exhibitions only provide the opportunity to further trigger this revolution. The participation at EXCON 2005, both in terms of companies and visitors, is stunning and this exhibition is definitely moving towards finding its position in international arenas," said S.K. Mittra, General Manager, Larsen & Toubro Limited, Construction and Mining Equipment Business Unit. "Presence of multinational companies and delegations at this trade fair has provided the opportunity for Indian manufacturers to interrelate with their foreign counterparts." Vice-President of Volvo Construction Equipment Mrityunjaya Singh said Volvo had received business enquiries approximately worth about Rs. 50 crores. "What is all the more encouraging is the change witnessed in serious discussions from both Indian and international customers that have resulted in these order bookings. EXCON is on the right track." "This trade fair has given us the opportunity to tie up with an Ethiopian company through which we aim to sell our products in that country and we have initiated talks with several parties for dealerships," disclosed Steven A. Spence, International Area Manager of United States. based Multiquip Construction Equipment. "The Government has shown keen interest in this industry and we have great hopes that in the coming years there would be accelerated growth towards better infrastructure." The fair which showcased India's engineering skills and potential as a global outsourcing destination for manufacture of construction equipment and components, witnessed the participation of 170 exhibitors.
