Hyderabad: The Congress Legislature Party has decided to back Assembly Speaker, K. R. Suresh Reddy since there was no way the House could deviate from traditions and conventions in conducting its business. At a meeting here on Monday, the CLP scorned the Opposition's decision to boycott the BAC and felt there was no need to bow to the pressure of the united onslaught of the Opposition on this issue. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who presided, was quoted as saying that the Opposition's move was irrational.
Indiramma programme
He is said to have observed that price rise of vegetables in the recent past was more due to the damage caused by the heavy rain to the crops and the situation would ease in a couple of weeks. Referring to the Indiramma programme aimed at creating model villages and model wards in urban pockets he urged the members to publicise it properly for the benefit of people. Housing was another contentious issue that should be tackled carefully without any prejudice, he advised members. Some members sought extra allocations of housing units to meet the regular demand too. Congress MLA from Khairatabad P. Janardhan Reddy urged the Chief Minister to appoint a three-member committee to oversee Krishna water distribution to different regions without directly referring to Pothireddypadu Head Regulator to avoid controversy. He was assured that the Bachawat Award would be honoured in the water releases.
Dy. Chief Minister post
When he raised the issue of creation of a deputy Chief Minister post, he was gently reminded that the AICC was the competent body to make the decision. If such a decision was taken then it would be a matter of time such a post was created. His demand for higher compensation to those evicted from EMMAR properties near the city (where a golf course was being planned) would be looked into by the Cabinet sub-committee, he was told. APCC president K. Keshava Rao was a special invitee to the meeting.
