No traffic personnel at the busy Bapuji Nagar

  • Vehicles from Trimulgherry, Military area and Bapuji Nagar come to a standstill here
  • Proper use of barricades will ease traffic flow
  • Heavy vehicles allowed on congested roads

HYDERABAD: The problem exists, the danger is evident and perhaps the traffic authorities are aware of it, yet no effort is made to rectify it.

It is a close call for hundreds of motorists who take the chaotic `Y' junction at Bapuji Nagar in Bowenpally. Motorists literally run into each other from all directions and that too at high speed, often leading to accidents. Major accidents are just waiting to happen here.

If you observe the flow of traffic for a few minutes, you realise the gravity of the problem. Vehicles from Trimulgherry almost clash with those coming from the Bapuji Nagar petrol bunk side. Those from Trimulgherry and from the Military area side nearly miss bumping into each other at the `Y' junction near the KJR Complex.

    The wrong turn

When vehicles from the Military area side take a right turn towards Trimulgherry from Hotel Centre Point, that too poses a problem. Often, a four-wheeler taking the blind turn results in a bottleneck for all those vehicles coming from Trimulgherry side.

Two barricades are lying in one corner of the road. Locals feel that had they been placed properly at the junction to avoid vehicles taking right to Trimulgherry, the danger could be reduced, if not removed. Also, absence of traffic signal or a speed breaker, which the locals feel could solve the problem, is making things worse.

    Locals' demand

"Accidents take place everyday or rather every hour. Thankfully, there have been no major accidents in the recent past. The minimum the authorities can do is to have a traffic signal or a speed breaker here," says Anand Ramkumar, who runs a sweet shop nearby.

He says that though the junction is a busy one, not a single traffic personnel is present there. Adding to the problems is the movement of heavy vehicles that come from the Medchal side and proceed to Trimulgherry via the `Y' junction. "As it is the road is congested. The police should not allow heavy vehicles on it. They should be made to take the main Bowenpally road," feels Vinay, a resident of Bapuji Nagar.
