Wearing many hats

Appearing on stage is nothing new for the head of a municipality. In fact, it forms an important part of his official duties. But recently, the chairperson of Thripunithura municipality appeared on stage in a role uncharacteristic of a municipal chairperson.

The venue was Poornathrayeesa Temple, Thripunithura, during the Vrischikolsavam being held there. Renjini Suresh, the chairperson, had donned the role of the demon `Khara' in `Kharavadham' Kathakali presented as part of the cultural programmes held in connection with the festival. The performance was presented by the all-women Kathakali Troupe of Thripunithura. Her new official role notwithstanding, Ms. Suresh, an active member of the troupe, could not forsake her commitment to the art form.
