ERODE: Gold jewellery weighing 17 sovereigns and Rs. 6,000 were stolen from a house at Rajgoundenpalayam, 20 km from Rayarpalayam on Tuesday. According to the police, three masked men entered the house of Rajan, a driver of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation at around 3 a.m. Rajan had left for duty and his wife Selvi (35), headmistress in Ayegoundenpalayam Elementary School and her brother Murthy (32) were sleeping in the house. The robbers cut the gold thali from Selvi's neck and she raised an alarm. Murthy, who was sleeping in the hall, came to his sister's rescue, but one of them beat him with a stick. Frightened, Selvi gave the key of the bureau and the three made away with gold jewellery and cash. Selvi informed the Thingalure police. A case has been registered.
