Maha Parinirvana observed

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: The 49th death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar was observed in the district.

The Dalits and other community leaders and members, who observe the day as Maha Parinirvana Day, paid tributes to Dr. Ambedkar. Several Dalit organisations took out processions and organised rallies to commemorate the day.

While the Dalit Panters organised a rally near Sardar Vallabhai Patel Chowk, the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Sagar) organised a procession. Senior leaders of the samiti, including State Convener D.G. Sagar, participated in the procession.

Samaveshas

The DSS is observing the death anniversary by organising "Sangharsh Samaveshas" throughout the State for a month at all the district and taluk headquarters.

The samaveshas will highlight the problems faced by the Dalits, stress on the need for increasing the reservation quota for the Scheduled Castes and seek extension of the reservation policy in the private sector.
