Belgaum: For a short while, for a few "mini ambassadors" from India and other countries, the world was a classroom for learning about different cultures. These young representatives of their countries have returned home after a gainful Youth Exchange programme hosted by Vietnam recently.

Among those in the 13-member NCC delegation from the country was Namrata Anchan of Belgaum, a student at KLE Society's Lingraj College in the city. She was the only candidate from Karnataka & Goa Directorate and one among six girls in the NCC delegation, which took off from New Delhi on November 15 with the objective of portraying the rich cultural heritage of the country.

According to Principal of Lingaraj College Baswaraj Jagjampi, Namrata, daughter of Nutan and Bhanuprakash Anchan, is a senior Under Officer of 26 Karnataka Battalion of NCC. Before leaving for Vietnam, the delegation was prepared for a series of presentations and interaction at a seven-day camp in Delhi.

Namrata is a bright student, Prof. Jagjampi says. She participated in the Republic Day camp this year; she was adjudged best student of the college in 2004-05 and made a name for herself as a good orator and debater. She is a sportsperson too and participated in a State-level basketball tournament in 2000.

Her skills as an NCC cadet were honed under the command of Col. Sanjeev Pande, Commanding Officer, 26, Kar. BN. NCC, Belgaum, and Maj. F.B. Goudar.
