BANGALORE: Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Tuesday said that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has acquired land at a price that is below the market rate for the proposed Arkavathy Layout. He promised that the Government will provide adequate compensation to farmers whose land has been acquired. Addressing presspersons at the Vidhana Soudha after paying tributes to Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 49th death anniversary, Mr. Dharam Singh said the BDA has paid compensation at the rate of Rs. 8 lakhs an acre, which is below the prevailing market price. After holding talks with BDA Commissioner M.N. Vidyashankar and landowners, adequate compensation will be given, he said. The BDA has already begun to develop the layout and he is aware of protests by farmers demanding higher compensation. The Government will put and end to all controversies with regard to the formation of the layout, Mr. Dharam Singh said. Asked about the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's letter to him on providing internal reservation for backward classes (Category 2 A), the Chief Minister said the Cabinet will discuss the letter and take a decision after the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats are completed later this month. Mr. Dharam Singh, Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash, Minister for Transport and Water Resources M. Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister for Social Welfare Y. Nagappa, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education R. Ramalinga Reddy and Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare T. Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagouda garlanded the statue of Dr. Ambedkar.
