IMA ready to adopt PHCs

Staff Reporter

KURNOOL : Indian Medical Association (IMA) has come forward to adopt primary health centres to supplement the efforts of the Government to provide medical care in rural areas.

Addressing a meeting held in connection with the installation of new body of the IMA city unit on Sunday night, its president G. Balamaddaiah offered to help the Government and said the body also took up on its own the `anaemia free India' and TB control programme.

Dr. Balamaddaiah expressed concern over growing attacks on doctors by the public in case of death of patients and called upon the association members to create a crisis management team to educate the public about the line of treatment and implications involved in it.

He said appointment of unqualified people as rural health practitioners was not advisable as they could only be helpers and not doctors.

MLA M.A. Gafoor, who attended the function as chief guest, said doctors should instil confidence in patients.

He asked doctors to create a panel for reviewing critical cases that strain relations with the public.

Mahendranath was installed as general secretary and Moksheswarudu treasurer.

General Hospital Superintendent Hanumantharayudu and others were present.
