Shooting
HYDERABAD: It's an Olympian's dream. By January end next year, Athens Games silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore plans to assemble six of the world's best marksmen for an exhibition-cum-competition at a Mumbai beach or stadium. The shooting stars are Daniel Di Spigno, Hakan Dalbi, Ahmed Al Maktoum, Schanz Waldemar, William Chetcutti and Rathore himself. Another such show is planned at Lucknow, where the project enjoys the blessings of the Sahara group, he says. A half-filled stadium would do. The whole exercise is aimed at dispelling the myth that shooting needs a lot of space. So would it prove that infrastructure for the show can be set up in an hour and dismantled within a similar duration. The plans are under process and in need of sponsorship. The sports administrators should reach out to the public and construct smaller ranges to enable their access to the facilities. Rules should be liberalised to import sports equipment and issue licences, he said. "These weapons don't kill," he added. The increased sponsorship and large spectator presence at the ongoing Nationals were encouraging signs for the sport, he said. Special Correspondents
