Siva and Sankar win

PUDUKOTTAI: S. Sivasubramanian and D. Sankar Ganesh of JJ College of Arts and Science won the title in the ninth Ramzan badminton tournament (doubles) at the Cosmo Badminton Club (CBC) here on Sunday. The duo beat Rajasekar and Rajiv Gandhi of New Modi Badminton Club 15-5, 13-15, 15-5 in the final.

Men: Semifinals: Rajasekar-Rajiv Gandhi bt Senthil-Raghavan (PBC) 15-8, 15-10; Sankar Ganesh-Sivasubramanian bt Ramkumar-Illayaraja (CBC) 15-10, 15-11.

Veterans: Final: R.S. Pandian-Somasundaram (Madurai) bt Syed Mohammed-Nagaraj (CBC) 15-5, 15-6. Boys: Under-15: Final: Riyaz-Veerakutty (CBC) bt Bhuvanesh-Ayyappan (NMBC) 15-8, 15-7.

Under-17: Final: Kannan-Dinesh (CBC) bt Ishanth-Sankar (NMBC) 15-12, 15-13.

SYG triumphs

Sourashtra Youth Gym (Nilayur) won the team title with 173 points to clinch the Hercules Rajaram memorial Trophy in the 51st Madurai district senior weightlifting championship in Madruai on Sunday.

The results (winners only): 56-kg: Surendranath (SYG) (185 kg total); 62-kg: N.A. Manikandan (SYG) (180 kg); 69-kg: V.R. Janarthanan (Friends Gym) (190 kg); 77-kg: M. Sudhakar (Friends Gym) (187.5 kg); 85-kg: R. Rajesh Ragu (Ayyanar Gym) (180 kg); 94-kg: M. Krishnakumar (Friends Gym) (265 kg).

Easy for G.K. Motors

G.K. Motors HC registered an emphatic 5-0 victory over Thirunagar HC `B' in the Madurai district-level hockey league on Tuesday.
