AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Congress has complained to the State Election Commission against the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. The model code is in force in view of the elections to five Municipal Corporations and four Municipalities in the State.
Modi's road shows
The Congress said that during Mr. Modi's "road shows" in Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot to campaign for the BJP, posters and banners were displayed in violation of the model code. A Congress spokesman alleged that the BJP did not remove the posters, which described the Modi Government's "achievements." Complaints had been lodged with the Collectors and local election offices, but BJP workers did not allow the authorities to remove them. Besides Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot, elections will also be held to the Bhavnagar and Jamnagar Municipal Corporations and four municipalities on December 11. After its impressive victory in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the district and taluka panchayats and 49 municipalities last month, the BJP is confident of winning all the seats on offer on Sunday.
