MUMBAI: The Industrial Development Bank of India Ltd (IDBI Bank) on Tuesday opened its new data centre at Belapur in Navi Mumbai, built through IBM Global Services, to support the bank's growth plans, including doubling the current branch network with an investment of Rs. 56 crore. "To thrive in these challenging times, we felt that it is important for IDBI Bank to focus on three objectives - efficiency, growth and resilience. IDBI aspires to become a dominant player in the financial service sector,'' Chairman and Managing Director V. P. Shetty said at the inaugural function.

The bank had decided to centralise its IT infrastructure in this new data centre to overcome the complexity of IT bottlenecks and mitigate the risks arising out of newer security threats, he added.

This data centre spread over 12,000 sq. ft. will enable the bank to provide processing power and storage capacity for its IT applications on demand.

The bank had also invested in CRM solution, thereby enabling it to up-sell and cross-sell its large base of existing customers.

As part of this project, IBM is building a Disaster Recovery Centre in Chennai, which is expected to be operational by December 26.
