More funds for research sought

PONDICHERRY: Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor A. K. Bhatnagar has called for grant of sufficient funds for scientific research.

Speaking to presspersons on Tuesday, ahead of the two-day 75th annual session of the National Academy of Sciences India, he said young scientists should need to be assured of good opportunities. Lt. Governor M. M. Lakhera will inaugurate the session on December 8. A special address on "Shaping our genome future" will be delivered by M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman, National Commission on Farmers. M. S. Sinha, Executive Secretary of the Academy, said that of the 90 papers received for the physical section, 61 papers were found suitable for presentation. In the biological sciences section, 140 papers were accepted.
