Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: The AICC secretary K B Krishnamoorthy MP who is in charge of the affairs of the Congress in the Union Territory of Pondicherry has called upon the rank and file to face the future challenges united. Participating in a meeting convened by the reconstituted committee of the pradesh unit of the party here on Sunday, Mr. Krishnamoorthy who was on a brief visit to Pondicherry had said it was only in Pondicherry was the congress working without room for friction or disputes or difference of opinions in the entire Southern belt. The present leader P Shanmugham (who presided over the meeting) was most respected steward in the party and the list of office bearers he had presented to the AICC president recently for the PCC in Pondicherry it was approved across the counter and without delay. This showed that the party was safe in the hands of Shanmugham. Mr. Krishnamoorthy also lauded the efforts of Chief Minister N Rangasamy and his government in the context of the recent flood and also last year's tsunami related relief works in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions. Mr. Shanmugham said very soon the committees at all levels including the booth level of the party would be constituted and ultimately a state-level conference would be held in the next three months. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the AICC leader Sonia Gandhi would be invited to address the conference. Mr. Shanmugham said he had never stood in the way of the finalisation of constituencies for the four regions of the Union Territory by Delimitation Commission, as it was a constitutional authority. The order of the Commission (fixing the number of constituencies at 23 for Pondicherry, 5 for Karaikal, one for Mahe and retaining the lone segment in Yanam) had now come to the stage of being placed before Parliament.
