Woman raped in train

NASIK: A 20-year-old woman travelling to Mumbai with her family was allegedly raped on Tuesday in a speeding train near here. The accused then went on a looting spree.

A gang barged into a sleeper compartment of the Mumbai-bound Pawan Express at Nasik at around 1 a.m. The youths allegedly molested the woman. One of them later allegedly raped her, police said.

Passengers chased the attackers, who, while fleeing, went on a looting spree, the sources said.

The youth, who allegedly raped the woman, was later identified by the police as Ashok Jadhav. He was caught and would be produced in court at Nasik on Wednesday.

According to GRP sources, after the train reached Kalyan station, the woman lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, the investigations were transferred to the Nasik GRP unit.
