Kadirgamar case: suspects remand extended
V.S. Sambandan
COLOMBO:
The Colombo Chief Magistrate has extended the remand of five suspects in the assassination of Lakshman Kadirgamar by a suspected LTTE sniper on August 12.
The suspects were not produced in court for security reasons, the state-run Daily News reported.
The court was told that a special police squad had been deployed to trace the main LTTE suspect and to trace the weapon used for the killing, the report said.
In another verdict relating to the case, the Court of Appeal has ordered the release of Charles Gnanakone, a Sri Lankan-born Australian businessman, who was detained in connection with the assassination, the newspaper said.
