15 papers rejected in Bellary district

BELLARY: Fifteen nomination papers (eight for the zilla panchayat and 13 for taluk panchayat elections) were rejected after scrutiny.

In all, 356 and 1,041 nomination papers were filed for both the elections in Bellary district. Wednesday is the last date for withdrawal of papers.

Following is the taluk-wise details in the order of nominations filed, number of papers rejected is given within brackets: Sirguppa ZP 41 (1), TP 115 (3); Bellary ZP 54 (1), TP 188 (1); Hagari Bommanahalli ZP 37 (4), TP 139 (3); Hospet ZP 43 (0), TP 110 (3); Kudligi ZP 33 (0), TP 133 (1); Sandur ZP 44 (0), TP 126 (2); Hadagali ZP 26 (2), TP 115 (0).

Over 9.39 lakh voters (4.65 lakh men and 4.73 lakh women) will exercise their franchise in the panchayat elections scheduled on December 23.

The district administration has made preparations for the smooth conduct of the election.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer said 1,069 polling booths will be set up in the district.
