THRISSUR: The High Court Judge K.P. Radhakrishna Menon has said that India is a nation which has given shelter to those who face religious persecution and refugees. Inaugurating the Amala fellowship conference at the Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, near here, on Sunday, Mr. Menon said the Vedanta philosophy rested on lofty values, such as human dignity, freedom, equality and spirit of service. He said Indian culture sought to emphasise the point that different beliefs and ideologies led to the same ultimate truth. Adyatma Vidya, enshrined in the Vedic philosophy, made human beings glow with love, purity, compassion, truthfulness, tolerance and spirit of service and replaced negative traits, such as selfishness, hatred, violence and exploitation. ``This tolerance made the people of this country realise that love and truth are the basic concepts of all religions of earth. That is why in Bhagavad Gita, it is said, `whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to Me.'' "The concept `unity in diversity' has become the national ideology. This ideology practised along with yet another ideology, `sacrifice and service,' helped Indians abjure sectarianism, bigotry and its horrible descendant, fanaticism,'' Mr. Menon said.
