CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Tuesday announced several incentives for the people belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and those who are living below the poverty line in the State. This included the implementation of 85th constitutional amendment, special allowance for safai karamcharis, filling up the backlog in government services and providing Rs. 1 lakh as loan at subsidised rate of interest of three per cent. Mr.Hooda was addressing a State-level function at Panipat to mark the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. He also announced that interest-free loan would be provided to the students belonging to Scheduled Castes for pursuing higher studies. The students pursuing graduation would get Rs. 2,000 instead of Rs. 800, for post-graduation, M.Phil, LL.B and B.Ed, Rs. 4.000 instead of Rs. 1,500 and for vocational and technical degree coursesRs. 6,000 per year. Similarly, the amount for purchase of books and stationary had been increased from Rs. 80 to Rs. 150 for students of sixth to eighth standard, and from Rs. 120 to Rs. 200 annually for students of ninth to twelfth. Nearly 1.2 lakh students would be benefited from this decision. Mr. Hooda disclosed that the people belonging to Scheduled Castes would be given a loan of Rs. 5 lakhs at five per cent interest for the purchase of two acres of land and Rs. 50,000 would be given as subsidy. He also announced to reduce the interest rate from six per cent to five per cent for the loan given by the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Nigam Limited. He stated that Rs. 200 per month would be given as a special allowance to the Safai karamcharis working in government and public sector institutions. He waived off the loan of Rs. 4.69 crores taken by the members of these communities in 1988 from the Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation.
