Medical college to be set up near Warangal

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The first Catholic medical college in the State will come up at Karunapuram near Warangal.

Efforts are on by the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), one of the earliest missionary groups with headquarters at Rome which entered India 150 years ago, to set up the college in association with the 13 Catholic dioceses of the State.

Disclosing this to The Hindu on Sunday, Rev Gian Battista Zanchi, general-superior, PIME, said a group of fathers, led by Rev Fr Augusto Colombo, were working on the project, identifying the site and mobilising funds from local sources.

Fr Colombo was instrumental in the establishment of the Christu Jyothi Engineering College at Jangaon.
