One hurt as lorry overturns

Nellore: One person was injured when a lorry overturned in the Royyalakalva of Chittamuru mandal, on Monday.

The incident occurred when the lorry with a load of firewood, was caught in floodwater and overturned, resulting in injury to one person who has been rushed to hospital. - Staff Reporter

Miraculous escape

Nellore: Passengers of a RTC bus had a miraculous escape near Nellorepalem village of Atmakur manal, when it got stuck in loose soil along the road margin.

The incident occurred when the driver tried to avoid goats, which suddenly came in front of the vehicle. - Staff Reporter

Nellore: The 49th death anniversary of Baba Saheb B.R. Ambedkar, was observed at Nellore, by different organisations, on Tuesday.

The organisations included the district unit of All-India Minorities Federation, district Dalit Vidyarthi Sena and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

New Managing Director for Hindustan Tools

HYDERABAD : A.V. Kamat, General Manager (marketing), recently took over as Managing Director, Hindustan Machine Tools Limited, Hyderabad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of HMT Ltd. He joined the organisation in 1975 as an engineer trainee and held various key positions in the machine tools division. He holds the B. Tech degree in mechanical engineering from IIT, Mumbai. - Special Correspondent

Naxals torch truck, two tractors

Sangareddy: Four armed naxalites of Giraipally dalam burnt a truck and two tractors transporting filtered-sand at Singaram village of Thoguta mandal on Monday night. They also beat up four persons -- Rabbani, Kondalreddy, Buchi Reddy and Venkatnarsaiah -- and partially damaged two more tractors. The naxalites said to have warned a local sand contractor Mk. Moinuddin to stop the illegal transportation several times and even pasted wall posters in the village warning him of direct consequences. - Staff Reporter

Satyam plans operations in Nagpur

HYDERABAD : Satyam Computer Services Limited on Monday announced its plans to expand its operations into Central India.

It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) for allotment of a 100-acre plot in the Special Economic Zone in Nagpur. With this, Satyam becomes the first global IT Company to announce their plans to enter in Nagpur.

B. Rama Raju, Managing Director, Satyam, said the company's association with Maharashtra went back to 1997 when it set up a campus in Pune. - Special Correspondent

IT Innovation Award

HYDERABAD : NASSCOM, the premier trade body of the IT software and service industry in India on Monday announced the commencement of the third leg of "IT Innovation in India Awards '05" at Hyderabad.

The event will showcase five Innovative Emerging IT companies in India that have been short listed by eminent panelists from the industry. The first leg and second of the event were held in Pune and Bangalore on November 21 and November 28 respectively.

NASSCOM has recognised four Hyderabad-based companies for its IT Innovation Award.

Agency appointed to prepare project report

HYDERABAD: Water and Power Consultancy Services India Limited, a Central Government agency, is being appointed for preparing the report for the Pranahita-Chevella projects.

The agency will be paid Rs. 2.5 crores by the State Government for preparing the detailed project report (DPR), designs, environmental impact assessment and the relief and rehabilitation (R & R) report. The project is aimed at irrigating 123 lakh acres of land in the Telangana districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Medak and Ranga Reddy besides providing 160 tmcft of water to the twin cities. - Special Correspondent

Gun seized

Kakinada: The Devipatnam police seized a country-made SBML gun from the house of Karam Bucchanna Dora, a tribal in Devaram village of Devipatnam mandal on Tuesday. However, the tribal gave a slip to the police and a hunt is on for him.

The Devipatnam police registered a case. - Correspondent
