ONGOLE: Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) State vice-president Gandla Venkatarao woke up on Tuesday to a bomb scare. Mr. Venkatarao, who lives in Gaddalagunta here, saw a moped parked outside his house. When he went near the moped, he found to his consternation that a cardboard box was placed on it on which was written in bold letters "Beware of bombs." It also carried the danger symbol. The APCLC leader then called the Sub-Inspector and the Circle Inspector of Police. They assured him that they would take action. He also informed some newspersons and asked them to come over to the place.
Squad in action
The bomb disposal squad reached his house at around 8 a.m. After taking all precautions, they opened the box only to find a dozen pencil-size detonators connected to a wire. They defused them. The box contained no gelatine sticks to cause explosion as feared. The police also searched surrounding areas for landmines but found nothing. They took moped and the detonators to the police station for further investigation. No organisation claimed responsibility. People however suspect that it is the handiwork of Nallamala Nallatrachulu, who had killed Kula Nirmulana Porata Samithi leader Prasad at Tangutur and made threats over the telephone to persons considered to be sympathetic to the Maoists in Ongole.
