Dial-up Internet service launched in Tuticorin

Staff Reporter

Charges for this post-paid service is based on usage

Tuticorin: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has introduced

duration-based Dial-up Internet Service in the Tuticorin telecom district.

A release said the new method would enable the customer to access the Internet service from any telephone through dial-up mode, without purchasing any prepaid Internet coupons.

The service offers automatic registration facilities and the authentication would be based on the Calling Line Identification Protocol (CLIP) of the telephone with the password provided by the customers themselves.

The charging of this post-paid service would be based on usage and the customer has to remit charges incurred along with the telephone bill for the particular landline telephone connection.

The access number to avail the service is `172222' and the usage charges for Internet access stands at 10 paise per minute.

The BSNL had also introduced a free trial offer for the existing BSNL customers having dialup Internet connections to get broadband services without paying any additional charges for registration or for installation.

However, they will have to pay for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) or modem.

No rent for two months

Another salient feature of the scheme is: customers who have switched over to broadband service need not pay rent for two months.

The offer is valid to those customers who wished to switch over to broadband services from the dialup connections on or before December 25.

The Excel Prepaid cards are now issued on demand across the district. These cards could be purchased from the Customer Service Centres functioning in Tuticorin and Kovilpatti as well as from the approved franchisees of the BSNL.
