Video conferencing

NEW DELHI: A video conferencing facility between the Tis Hazari courts complex and Tihar Central Jail was launched here on Tuesday. The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Markandeya Katju, inaugurated the facility at Tis Hazari, while Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was present at the Tihar Jail complex.

Expressing happiness at the facility, Mr. Justice Katju said more technological advancement would be made to make the criminal justice system more efficient and transparent.

Ms. Dikshit appreciated the efforts of the prison staff, the National Informatics Centre and the court officials for putting the facility in place. It would substantially save money spent on transportation of under-trials to various courts for minor matters like grant or extension of remand.

Directive to Deputy Commissioners

NEW DELHI: Delhi Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar Nigam on Tuesday directed the Deputy Commissioners of all 12 zones of the civic body to strictly ensure that no marriages take place in farmhouses having less than 60-foot width of road in front of them.

He asked the Deputy Commissioners to initiate legal action against defaulters in accordance with the provision of the DMC Act.

Mr. Nigam has also written to the Police Commissioner emphasising that station house officers of the police stations concerned must be directed to confiscate all goods available at the delinquent farmhouses where marriage functions are not permitted as per directions of the Delhi High Court.

Japanese cuisine

NEW DELHI: With the release of the book, "Sakura's Japanese Kitchen: The Culture and Cuisine of Japan", by Japanese Ambassador Yasukuni Enoki at Hotel Metropolitan Nikko here over the weekend, the month-long "Japan Cultural" celebrations here came to an end.

Releasing the book, compiled and published by Hotel Metropolitan Nikko, Mr. Enoki said: "Japan is synonymous with its cuisine and culture. Japanese cuisine has taken the Western world by storm as the low fat and low cholesterol diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world. The book is a veritable storehouse of recipes and a must for the new trendsetters of Japanese food lovers."

International food exhibition on Dec. 8

NEW DELHI: A three-day "International Food, Drink and Hospitality Exhibition (IFE) India-2005" will begin at Pragati Maidan here on Thursday.

IFE India-2005 will see the participation of five-star hotels and restaurant chains. Conferences, seminars and exclusive wine tasting sessions will be organised by the Indian Wine Academy to attract wine buyers from across the country.
