Shettar calls it a puppet government

Staff Correspondent

`Coalition partners fighting each other, development hit'

Madikeri: The Dharam Singh-led coalition Government is remote-controlled by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit President Jagdish Shettar.

Mr. Shettar was addressing a large gathering of the BJP workers' convention at Gonicoppa on Tuesday. The coalition partners were fighting each other ignoring the interests of the common people, he said. Development had come to a standstill. The State Government had failed to constitute Ashraya Committees in the districts spoke of the failure of the dispensation to solve the plight. Roads throughout the State had become bad.

The BJP leader said the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had presented the State Budget last year with the consent of Mr. Deve Gowda. But how can the same budget become "ineffective and bad" after the ouster of Mr. Siddaramaiah, he asked. The zilla and taluk panchayats will spell doom for the coalition Government in the State, Mr. Shettar said. The BJP is sure to romp home in the elections in the State. The party is ready to face the elections at any point of time, he said.

Senior party leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa charged the coalition Government with indulging in large-scale corruption. Such governments should not continue as it can diminish the faith of people in democracy.

B.B. Shivappa, who rejoined the BJP recently, said development of rural areas alone could hasten the progress of the nation and the BJP is the only party capable of achieving it.

He praised the two party MLAs from Kodagu, H.D. Basavaraj from Virajpet and K.G. Bopaiah from Madikeri, for their work.

Shobha Karandlaje, MLC; and the former MLA from Somwarpet M.P. Appachu Ranjan; Virajpet MLA Basavaraj and State Mahila Morcha vice-president Bharati Shetty were present.
